Why TicketMaster sucks

So, after the sudden death of his mother, Kanye West announced the cancellation of several shows here in Europe, which we figured would happen.

And TicketMaster subsidiary TicketService, who those of us in Amsterdam were forced to use if we wanted to buy tickets, dutifully announced they would issue a refund to concert-goers  for the cost of the tickets.

But they won’t entirely refund the money after all.  TicketService will not give back the money for the service charge tacked onto the tickets.  Further, if West does reschedule, we will have to pay the service charge again if we want to go see the show!

Translation: €4.35 was added to every ticket purchased.  That is about $6.40.  If 15,000 people bought tickets, TicketService pockets  €65,250, on top of another €65,250 when the next batch of tickets go on sale.  That’s nearly $200,000 for basically doing nothing.  We even booked the tickets ourselves online without talking to anyone in customer service.

Oh yeah, if you call customer service, it costs an additional  €0.45 per minute just for the privilege.  And 90% of the time they put you on hold.

Forget Google and Microsoft; the European Union should be going after these bastards.  What a con.

We’ll call them up and let you know what happens.
